Across the country, states have implemented Prescription Monitoring Programs (PMPs) or Prescription Drug Monitoring Programs (PDMPs) to provide physicians and pharmacies with access to a patient’s controlled substance medication history. State PMPs and PDMPs are designed to assist healthcare providers in combating opioid addiction and abuse.

Get Started with Integration

PMP/PDMP integration is available in most states. To determine if your state is connected, and whether it is funded, click on your state. Keep in mind that this information is updated on a weekly basis.

If your state is not currently available for integration, edgeMED recommends continuing with enrollment for PMP/PDMP integration. Your state and our third-party integrator, Appriss, keep your information on file so that you will be notified as soon as integration is available.

Step 2: Enroll with your state PMP/PDMP

If your state is available for integration, you'll need to be enrolled with your state's PMP/PDMP before you can set up the integration.

Already enrolled? You're ready for Step 3!

Step 3: Enroll in integration

Click here to launch the enrollment form for PMP/PDMP integration.

Click Create an Account.

 

Complete the account details, then click Create.

 

Follow the on-screen prompts to complete your integration enrollment.

Step 4: Receive integration credentials

Once your integration registration has been approved, you will receive your integration credentials. You will need to use separate integration credentials for each location with a unique group NPI. Keep in mind that approval and integration registration can take 2-4 weeks.

Integration credentials are different from the credentials providers use to access the PMP/PDMP directly.

Step 5: Link your edgeMED account to your integration credentials

Your Practice Administrator can enter your integration credentials in the Product Dashboard.

Click Utilities and select PMP/PDMP Connectivity.

 
On the Locations tab, make sure that valid addresses and NPIs are listed for each location that will be integrated with the PMP/PDMP. Next, enter the username and password for PMP/PDMP integration for each location. Click Save to complete the location setup.

Step 6: Assign provider roles

On the Providers tab, set the role for each paid provider account by selecting the option in the dropdown. Click Save to update the provider roles.Each provider needs to have the role that appropriately corresponds to their medical prescription authority. Use Integration to Check PMP/PDMP Data

Once your integration is complete, all paid provider accounts with an appropriate role will be able to view the PMP/PDMP scores and reports from the Patient Dashboard.

The full report includes the following sections:

Risk Indicators: This includes all Narx scores, Overdose score, and additional risk factors for the patient.

Prescription Graph: Visualize patient prescriptions by provider over time (up to 2 years). Use the interactive checkboxes for Narcotic, Buprenorphine, Sedative, Stimulant, and Other medications to visualize a specific set of medications.

Milligram Equivalents: Equivalents for Morphine, Buprenorphine, and Lorazepam allow you to see the total dosage the patient is taking of narcotics, stimulants, and sedatives, respectfully. Prescriptions the patient is taking in these drug categories are converted the equivalent of the representative medication to visualize the total amount that a patient is taking.

Prescription Details: A list of all controlled substance prescriptions for the patient, sorted by date, with the most recent appearing first. Includes fill date, prescription date, medication, quantity, pharmacy, and provider information for each prescription.

Provider List: A list of all providers that have prescribed controlled medications for the patient including provider name, address, and phone number.

Pharmacy List: A list of all pharmacies that have filled controlled medication prescription for the patient including pharmacy name, address, and phone number.
